Similarly to how quickly he moves from acknowledging that women suffer to comparative suffering in his stand-up, Chappelle almost immediately moves from discussing how he watched one Cosby survivor “sobbing” [7:16] after the trial, and onto how he feels watching his “heroes fall”. [7:42] While it is valid to feel negatively about a person that once idolised them while they were committing crimes, his constant anecdotes that victimise himself appear entirely selfish. Like with the heckler, he always finds a way to turn the conversation back to his suffering, and ignores the assault victim’s suffering, and Brown notices this, as after Chappelle finishes another race anecdote, he says “so... you’re talking about race?”.
